Watchdog draws report against Facebook, court can slap fine

MOSCOW, Oct 5 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has drawn an administrative offense report against Facebook for non-deletion of information the country bans and will submit it to court that can slap a turnover-based fine on the U.S. company, the watchdog said on Tuesday in a statement.

“The communications service in the presence of a company Facebook Inc. representative has drawn an administrative offense report…for repeated violation of the order on restriction of access to the materials containing banned information on social networks Facebook and Instagram. The report will be handed over to court that will schedule the session date,” the statement read.

“The U.S. company can be fined from one twentieth to one tenth of revenue (from 5 to 10%), if the violation is repeated. The court will set the exact amount of the fine.”

The report has links to nine materials of which the authority has sent more than 110 warnings since 2019 – 60 warnings on four materials to Facebook and 53 warnings on five materials to Instagram.

Facebook and Instagram’s moderators deleted the nine materials after they were summoned for drawing of the report, but the country’s law obliges them to do it during 24 hours after receipt of a warning.
